Medicare now covers GLP-1s with a $50 copay. Noom pairs access to this benefit with healthy aging habits for what comes next.

What you’ll learn:

  • The Medicare GLP-1 Bridge creates a new $50-per-month pathway to most weight-loss GLP-1 medications for eligible Medicare beneficiaries.
  • Access is a major step forward, but medication is only one part of the journey—especially for older adults focused on strength, function, metabolic health, and healthy aging.
  • Noom is helping eligible Medicare members access GLP-1 Bridge benefits while pairing treatment with clinical and behavior-change support designed to make healthier routines easier to build.

On July 1, Medicare crossed an important threshold. Through the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge, eligible people with Medicare Part D, including most Medicare Advantage members, can now access most GLP-1 medications for weight management with a $50 copay for each one-month supply. Covered medications include Wegovy® Pill, Foundayo®, Wegovy® injection, and Zepbound®.

This coverage expansion is a major win for the large number of Medicare members who stand to benefit from these effective treatments but have been unable to afford the high costs. A class of drugs that changed how we think about obesity treatment is now within reach for people who, two months ago, had far fewer options.

But access is only the first part of the story. Real-world persistence on GLP-1s remains a challenge, regardless of coverage. From a product perspective, the interesting question starts the moment cost stops being the obstacle: what gets built during the window the medication opens?

GLP-1s are a catalyst, not a cure

At Noom, we talk about GLP-1s as opening a “habit window.” That is not a formal medical term. It describes a pattern we see across the treatment journey: when appetite quiets and food noise drops, people say they can more easily focus on better habits and mindful choices.

A behavior becomes a habit when someone both wants to do it and believes they can do it. The medication supplies neither, but it changes the conditions. When food noise drops, the healthy thing you’ve been meaning to do finally feels doable—pausing before eating, building a more intentional meal, noticing fullness, taking the walk instead of the choice that used to feel automatic.

Good product design helps people use that opening. Instead of asking someone to rely on motivation, we can put the right prompt, recipe, workout, lesson, or clinician conversation in front of them at the moment it is most useful. Over time, those actions stop feeling like effort and start feeling like routine.

For older adults, a personalized approach to healthy aging is that much more important

GLP-1 care cannot be one-size-fits-all. A 68-year-old starting treatment has different goals, constraints, medications, conditions, and daily routines than a 38-year-old. The product experience should reflect that.

That means putting practical priorities first: getting enough protein, preserving muscle through resistance training, managing side effects, and also understanding how treatment fits alongside other health conditions and prescriptions. Having a health coach that understands you as a person, your current goals and health history, and who can reach out proactively or just be there when you need them makes all the difference.

As we age, the risk of sarcopenia (loss of muscle mass) increases. A GLP-1 prescription without support for protein, movement, and accessible resistance training can add to that risk.

This is where a digital companion app and trained health coaches can be most useful. Our goal at Noom is an end-to-end experience that starts with “Am I eligible?” and “How can treatment help?” and continues through “What happens next?” and “What should I do today, this week, and this month?”

How Noom is supporting Medicare GLP-1 Bridge members

That is the approach we are taking with Noom’s Medicare GLP-1 coverage navigation and support.

  1. Start with a simple online evaluation. Members answer health questions and get an immediate answer as to whether they could have coverage for GLP-1 treatment. Every prospective member is evaluated by a licensed clinician who reviews their full health profile and prescribes only when GLP-1 therapy is clinically appropriate.
  2. We take on the administrative work. For members who move forward, Noom handles the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge prior-authorization process and provides status updates in the Noom app.
  3. We make filling the prescription easy, with free delivery. Once approved, an integrated pharmacy can ship medication directly to the member’s home. Medicare GLP-1 Bridge copays are  $50 per monthly fill, regardless of dose.
  4. Noom’s personalized GLP-1 companion supports success from day one. Not only do members have ongoing access to clinicians and health coaches, but they also get a personalized lesson plan, nutrition goals, rewards for steps, and the ability to invite their friends to build healthy habits together. Engagement in the Noom app has been strongly linked to improved weight loss and medication persistence.

Medicare’s bold coverage expansion opens the door. Noom is here to ensure that door leads to better health.

The Medicare GLP-1 Bridge is an important expansion of access. The opportunity now is to make sure access leads to an experience that offers the support Medicare members need to achieve better health.

At Noom, our experience shows that the best outcomes will come from bringing treatment and behavior change closer together. We bring nearly two decades of behavior-change expertise, now paired with clinical care and medication access. If GLP-1s open a window to change that’s finally achievable, our job is to help people use it well: with clinical guidance, practical tools, and small actions repeated until healthier choices become part of everyday life.

For Medicare members, that means designing around healthy aging from the start. And for the broader healthcare system, it points toward a future in which expanding access to powerful treatments and helping people build sustainable behaviors are not separate goals. They are two parts of the same care experience.
